New Investigator :)

Hey Family,

Ha ha. So Caitlin told you about hunting the squirrel? It was pretty funny. It helped us relax and then to focus back on our mission work. (Ammon and his companion live in a house with the zone leaders). You can't do mission twenty four seven. It will burn you out. Tell all the girls I want letters back and I will get to them as soon as possible. We are so busy here it's hard to get time to write.
This last week was freaking awesome for us and our mission work! We started teaching a new guy. He is 16 and his name is Tanner. He has had a lot happen to him and he has done a lot of dumb stuff like dealing drugs and that kind of stuff. Well, he has a couple of good Mormon friends that have been working with him. He has been looking for a change. He wants to have peace and happiness in his life. He thinks a lot about his future and he saw where he was going and that was not where he wanted to be. We started teaching him this Thursday. We had a great lesson. We brought three other converts with us to the lesson along with Tanner's Mormon friends. There was like ten of us at the lesson. The spirit was so strong and you could see the Holy Ghost working and touching his heart. He did not know much about the Bible or Christ or anything so it was a simple basic lesson. I think those are the best lessons anyways. Just as Mike Sutherland taught me, “keep it simple stupid.” Ha ha. That's how I keep my lessons. After the lesson we invited him to be baptized and he said yes. We've met with him every day since Thursday and he came to church this Sunday and loved it. He said "I feel comfortable here and welcomed". He wants to share this message with his family but they are being a little stand offish right now. He really loves that families can be together forever. I was able to talk about that and bear my testimony of it and how much it means to me and it was awesome. My eyes were watering just as his were. The power of the Holy Ghost is real and it can pierce any heart.
Thank you for the box of shampoo and stuff. I really needed it. Ha ha.  The calendar is for me mom. I needed one and I like John Wayne. He is one of my heroes. Yesterday it snowed all day and into the night and it is still snowing today. It has finally gotten cold enough to stick and not melt. I hope it keeps on coming! Oh and in this area we have a car. We drive a Subaru Impresda. I don't know how to spell it.  I kind of like that car. Mom I have got a few good pictures of the water and the mountains around here but my SD car is not full enough to send home. When it is full I will send it.  I bought three other SD cards so I have more. About the fishing, there is good salmon fishing here and halibut too but I have to go on a boat for that and I can't do that unless it is a charter boat. I will be sure to send home most all the fish I catch ok. I got hook ups on sending things home. A lot of Polynesian’s work at fed-ex so I can ship for almost nothing. Ha ha. Oh there is a drink the Tongan's make for big parties called ottie. Mom you would flippin love it! Really its good stuff and they are teaching us how to make it this next weekend and giving me the recipe. So when I get home I will make it for you!  Well I hope you all have a great week. Keep up the good work and help the Elder's out. Find people for them to teach.

The Church is TRUE!!!

Dear Family,

This week was good just nothing overly exciting.  It's hard to write about the same things over and over each week. We had lessons with people and taught them the gospel and we went to church. I have 6 hours of church every Sunday. It's way hard to stay focused. We have the Young Single Adult ward first. Then we have a meeting and then we go to the second ward. We don't get out of church until 4:30 or so. It is a killer that’s for sure. Ha-ha. So the weather has been alright this week. It snows off and on but it is too warm out that it melts, but today we woke up to 2 inches of snow and it has been snowing most of the morning. We will see how long it lasts.

So we did not have a baptism this weekend. The girl is doing stupid stuff so we are trying to meet with her and see what’s going on but she is avoiding us, so she probably won’t get baptized for a while. Oh well. We have lots of other people to teach. I don't have any really cool stories. My mission is not as exciting as Brazil. It's just a laid back area and we are just doing our missionary thing you know.

Well on a happy note, I know the church is true. I like Juneau. It is so much like home. The people seem pretty cool, but the girls here are weird because they are so desperate for guys. Ha-ha. It's sad. This is the area of all the Liberals in Alaska. It's tree hugger capital so that explains it. Ha-ha. Well I best get going. We get to play some volleyball. We play twice a week. I am getting pretty good. I could beat Avary any day. Ha ha ha boom. That’s right Avary; I said I can beat you at volleyball. Ha-ha. Well you all have a good week.

Hey Family,

We had a pretty good week. We had a baptism on Saturday. That went well. There were a lot of non-members there and they wanted to meet with us after the baptism and one of them told her member friend she wants to get baptized. Ha-ha. It was cool. I did not do so well on my talk but it got the job done. I was just not happy with it. I still hate giving talks. I hope they don't try and make me give a lot of talks when I get home because I will probably tell them no ha. I just want to do my home coming talk and that’s it.  Juneau is nice. We are having a lot of fun here. I love Palmer a lot more I really do but the fishing is way better here and it’s much prettier when you get a nice day which is not very often. It freaking rains here all the time. They say they get over 180 inches of rain fall a year here. That’s nuts.

I have some pictures I will be sending home on two SD cards. When you get the cards, post the pictures and keep the cards with you. I don't want them back. Don't lose them though. So you asked if Juneau is like Palmer. Um no not at all. There has been no service work here so far and I am in my suit a lot more. It kind of sucks. I like my Carhartt pants and boots better than a suit. This body is not made for a suit. Ha-ha. My birthday was good. A Tongan family did a surprise party for me and made me a cake and stuff. They are way good people. So I had a good birthday. It is weird to be saying I am 20. I don't feel 20. I still feel like I should be in high school or something.

Tell everyone thank you for the birthday cards. Tell Nana that I got her box. Thank you Nana. I love you and thank you Grandpa Bloom and Cathy. I love you guys two.

That story you told me about that guy who came to church brought a tear to my eye. That is so cool. One of the most powerful things we have to teach people besides the Holy Ghost is our testimonies. When you have an honest from the heart testimony and you have the spirit with you, you can touch anyone’s heart. I have learned this on my mission and the more you share your testimony the stronger it gets.

I miss you guys a lot. There is not a day that goes by that I don't think about you all and pray for you. I hope you all have a great week.

Juneau!

Hey Family,

I am doing much better today than I was yesterday. I seem to be on a roll with getting sick in every new area I go to. My first Sunday we were in church in the Young Single Adult sacrament meeting and I started to get really dizzy and nauseous. I told my companion that I don't feel so hot. I bucked up and made it through sacrament and then we had ward council right after that. As we were in class I was like crud I need to throw up. I was getting pale and could not focus. It was bad but somehow I hung in there and kept from throwing up but I made my companion take me home. As soon as I got home I ran to the bathroom and got sick. Ha-ha. It sucked. My head hurt so flipping bad yesterday. I don't know what the deal was with that. Ha-ha. So that was my first epic Sunday in Juneau.

Juneau is really pretty. It is a lot like home with lots and lots of big fir trees and cedars. We are right on the water too. The only thing is it is warm here. I miss the cold. It's like 34 degrees outside and clear today finally. It has rained the first four days straight. Juneau is pretty small but it’s still has city parts. It's not bad really because I can drive two minutes and be in the woods or on a river bank fishing for salmon. Ha-ha .There is really good fishing here I have been told. I hope I will make is down to Prince of Whales Island this summer so I can see Rich Bigelow and do some crazy good fishing. I will be sure to send home some fish.

Teaching in Juneau is the bomb. We have a lot of people we are teaching. We will have a baptism every weekend for the next four weekends! That's crazy! We do a lot of work with the Young Single Adult ward. There is a lot of Tongan people here too. I love it. They take good care of us. We have a baptism this weekend and I have to give a talk on baptism. I am kind of worried about it but I think it will go well. I really like my companion. We have a lot of fun together but he is getting me back on track with being obedient. Not that I was bad or anything I just didn't keep all the rules and I hated them but now I am following them better and it seems to be doing alright.

I am glad you got the boxes I sent home. Yes can you hang up the reindeer farm sweat shirt and the flannel jacket. Ha-ha. That's my pride and joy right there. That thing is so warm and I looked way good in that I tell you what ha ha ha. Thank you mom and dad for my birthday gift. I got it in the mail on Saturday. You guys are the bomb.

Well things are going good. I still don't know what's going on in Juneau because I just got here but I will tell you more as I learn more. Well I got to get rolling. You all have a good day. Follow the teachings of our Heavenly Father.
