Hi everyone,

We had a very busy week. Lots of lessons and two families moving out of the ward and a trip to the doctor’s office and we picked up a new family to teach. Ha-ha it’s been a crazy week. So mom don’t freak out I can already tell you’re freaking out that someone hard to go to the doctor and it was me. I am just fine and I still have all my fingers and toes lol I got bit by some kind of bug when we were helping someone move. I don’t know if it was a spider or what. But my whole wrist swelled up and was all red and stiff and really hot. So I went to the doctors ha. Well I was there forever and I had this weird nurse. So the doctor comes and looks at my arm and was like oh my. That’s not good. He said we will need to give you a shot and get you on some meds right ways. So shortly after he leaves this weird nurse comes walking back in and she is carrying a tray with the needle and stuff on it. Then she said drop your pants. Ha-ha I was totally caught off guard lol I was like umm what did you say? She said it again drop your pants we have to give you the shot in your butt. Lol. Wow was that freakin awkward or what lol also it was the most painful shot I have ever had in my life. I could not sit down for at least 2 hours after. So that was pretty weird but my arm is fine now and looks normal. I am still on meds though. But no need to be worried. Your son is just fine.
Well Minnie and her friend had to cancel on us this week they were busy with stuff so no lesson. But they are doing good still. We will be meeting up this week. And joey is doing good to. He is moving right along. We are happy with that. Then we picked up a new family to teach. There is a very long weird story to how we came about teaching them. I will have to tell you another time cuz I don’t have enough time to email it right now. But they are really cool and they are Philippino. I don’t know why I just didn’t get called to the Philippines on my mission. I swear I teach most of them. Ha-ha.
We also got our transfer calls this weekend. My comp is leaving me. Ugh I am not happy about that. He is going to train a new elder. I am getting Elder Webber. He is pretty new. I am also the new district leader. I am not happy about that. It’s the worst job on the mission and I will have ten elders in my district witch is huge for Alaska’s standards and I have to deal with the zone leaders on my district too. Ugh ha-ha not what I call fun. But it’s what the lord has called me to do. So there is a reason why I am called.
I got your letter thanks so much for telling Mr. Mouw.  Ha-ha it was way good to hear from him. I was not expecting to hear from him ha-ha he has been keeping tabs on me. That’s funny. He is such a good guy. I am excited to see Dan and his wife this week. It will be good to see someone from home. Too bad you’re not coming up to visit mom and dad. Ha-ha only 9 more months. Well I got to get going. I love all you all and I hope and pray you have a good week. God speed.

Pictures from a memory card Elder Woolbert sent home!

These two pictures are from a baptism Elder Woolbert had in Juneau I believe.

An eagle took off from a tree branch right in front of Elder Woolbert. Amazing photos!

Elder Woolbert was able to get some really good pictures of a glacier. I wish I could put all of them on his blog but there are way too many.

Elder Woolbert let his companion take some pictures with him in it. Finally! His companion caught Elder Woolbert throwing a big rock into the ice.
Another baptism in Juneau I believe.

Dear Family,

Thanks for the email. It was good. I only have a limited time to email anyways so I like to keep things to the point. Ha-ha. Well I was supposed to email you tomorrow because we had a lesson set for this morning but the lesson canceled at the last minute. Oh well, that's life. Me and my companion had another great week. We have been able to stay pretty busy. That helps keep my mind off home and girls. Ha. Joey is doing good. Still hard to teach. I think either his drugs or something else is messing with him. It makes for long interesting lessons. But we are pressing onward and upward. Minnie is doing great. She has come to church two weeks in a row now. Her friend we are teaching is moving right along. I don't know if she will be baptized when I am here but she will one day. I am pretty sure of that.
I am doing good like I said. I don't need anything else besides what I told you.  Can you ask Dan and Noreen if I can send some stuff home with them? That would be a big help. Oh, yesterday we had a big bull moose sleeping right in front of the church building doors as church was getting out. Ha-ha. It was funny. All the moms were freaking out.
Today we are going on a bus tour and we are going to some animal refuge. It should be fun. Then we are going on a hike if we have time. It will be to some mountain. I hope it's nice. The weather is not good today. It's cloudy and off and on rain. So that's what's been going on with me. Ha-ha. Really exciting. Oh, I bought the book cleansing of America. Wow that's a really crazy and cool book. If dad has not read it I will send it to him when I finish it. But knowing dad he probably already has it and has read it like ten times.
Well it's time for me to go. Sorry this was not much of an email. I just don't know what to say right now and I am on a time limit. So you all have a good week and keep safe. I hope all goes well with the hike and the girls like it. I love all you all.

Love,
 Elder Woolbert

Turn to the Lord in all things

8/13/2012
Dear Family,

We had a good week. Me and my companion have been working hard to get our member present lesson numbers up. There has been a big push for that and we have set the goal for 4 member lessons. Up here that's pretty dang good. There has not been very many member lessons in this area for a while so the last two weeks we have been tearing it up. We had three lessons last week and 4 this week. We had lots of other lessons but it's the member present ones we have been really pushing on. Our whole district has been kicking butt in getting member lessons. So I am pretty happy about that. I am not about numbers at all. They do not mean anything to me. I am about helping the people and bring them to Christ but setting this goal and reaching it has helped a lot in so many ways. When your teaching a nonmember, it is much better to take a member with you to fellowship the person and the member can share their testimony with the nonmember. So it was a good week.

So Minnie and her friend are doing really good. We had another lesson with Minnie and her friend this week. It was kind of funny what Minnie's friend said to me. You know me, I am not a man of fancy words and I don't think that I am a great speaker but I was talking about the love of God and I shared Romans chapter 8:38-39. And I just told her how God loves all of us no matter what we have done and we need to always remember that. Well when I got done talking about it, she said wow what you said was really beautiful. It was a spiritual moment but I almost started laughing because I am a just a simple red neck and I do not talk fancy. So it was funny to me but she really liked it. They are a lot of fun to teach. She agrees with everything that we have talked about. I think she will be baptized. She is a great lady.

Well as for Joey. Wow he is a hard one to teach. He talks so much. It makes it so hard to teach but I know that he likes us coming over. He is very lonely and he really likes the Book of Mormon. He has not asked a question that we could not answer. I guess that we will just have to find a totally new way of teaching this guy. To answer your question mom, Joey has not been to the doctor and he says he feels a lot better. I do not know if the tumor is going to kill him or not. They don't even know if it's even cancer. Joey is just too scared to see the doctor but I hope he will man up and go to the doctor soon. He really needs it.

Mom, I think that is way cool that the Lord has answered your prayers.  The Lord truly does know us and what we stand in need of. I am so glad to hear that. I have faith in the Lord that he will bless my family and give you all the support you need while I am out here on my mission. I know that the gospel of Jesus Christ is true. That's why I am doing what I am doing. I love all of you and I can't wait to see you all in 10 months. I hope you all have a great week and remember to turn to the Lord in all things.

Love,
Elder Woolbert

8/6/2012
Dear Family,

Well that was a very long email you sent me mom. Sorry my email won't be that long. I don't have enough time for that and I don't have that much to say. Ha-ha. We had a good week. Joey is the guy with the brain tumor and the guy that lives next to him is the less active guy. So I hope that clears things up a bit. Oh mom I am sorry that I totally didn't even tell you happy birthday. So happy birthday! So your 29 years old right? Hahahaha.  I am really sorry about the stupid Nissan. I can't even imagine how frustrated you all must be. So I won't tell you what I think about the car. Just have faith and turn to the Lord.

So we only met with Joey once this last week. He was busy every time we stopped which is really weird. So nothing crazy happened with me. But he is reading the Book of Mormon and that's good. He says he likes it. The big news of the week was we started meeting with this less active lady two weeks ago. Her name is Minnie. Well she is really cool and wants to come back to church. We had a great lesson with her the first time we met and this last week we went over to teach her and she had her friend over too and she is a nonmember. So we talked and didn't jump right into a lesson. We took it slow and we talked about church as a whole and other people's views and well we said some stuff that sparked her interest. Then I felt so prompted to explain the Book of Mormon to her and what it was all about. I gave her a brief history of it and then I asked her if she would like a Book of Mormon. She said yes. She was very excited and we set up another lesson with both ladies for this week. I think it will be great to teach this new lady and have her less active friend with her. So that was the high light of my week.

So last Monday for p-day we went to Girdwood and did a hike in the rain. It was fun. It was like a 5 mile hike. The whole point of the hike was to go across this canyon on a hand tram. It's a big metal bucket you stand in and you pull yourself across with a rope. It was pretty cool. There was a glacier river running below us. It was fun.

Well hmm, I do not know what else to really tell you all.  Well I guess I got to get going. Have a great week you all. Choose the right and remember who you are.

 Love,
 Elder Woolbert

I got my sling shot!

7/29/2012
Dear People of the lower 48,

We have been meeting with a guy named Joey. I think I have told you about Joey. He was one of the miracles in the letter. We meet probably 3 or 4 times a week. He does not do anything he just sits at home. So we read the Book of Mormon with him and teach him the plan of salvation. We had to break it up into two lessons cuz Joey talks too much and we can’t keep him on track. But he knows what we are teaching him is true and he feels good when we come over and teach him. We invited him to be baptized. He said yes but there is no date set. He is not ready to be baptized at the moment but he will be in a month or so.

We have been making progress with lots of other less active people to. They have been really fun, well some of them. Work is starting to get good here. It has just taken awhile for people to warm up to us and drop their guards. But where there is a will there is a way. Ha the lord will provide. Those are my stories for the week.

I got the sling shot in the mail ha-ha I am so excited to use that on some poor critter. I skinned out and tanned a squirrel hide last transfer ha-ha. It is hanging on the wall in the apartment. I need something a little bigger now. I am making my trophy wall. It will be pretty cool.

Well I am sorry to hear about the crappie Nissan. That car needs to get scraped. But I will pray that it will get fixed and not break the bank. You have put a lot of money into that dang car. Just remember God knows the problems you are facing and whatever happens is how it is meant to happen.

Hey I am sorry my time is running short I have to go. Ugh I hate the time limits here. But I am doing good and I miss all you all. Keep up the good work and know that god loves you.

Love,
 Elder Woolbert

New Companion!

7/23/2012
Dear Family and Friends,

Sorry for the short emails. I love hearing about home and from other people it's just hard to email a lot to you all because not much ever changes with us. We are trying to bring people closer to Christ. That's what we do all day all week all month for two years. Ha-ha. But this week I got my new companion. His name is Elder Burnham. He is from a small town in Arizona about 45 min from Snow Flake. He has been out about 6 months. He is a good kid. We have a lot of fun. The mission president has been good to me lately and giving me great companions.

Oh, so dad I benched 300 pounds this week. Ya buddy. I am not a bubble gum anymore. I will catch up to you one day old man. Ha-ha. I am getting pretty strong out here. I think it's my man strength kicking in but I keep getting bigger. Ugh the Woolbert genes. Oh well. Well you asked what we do for prep. days here. Well this morning I went fishing and skipped emails. We didn't catch anything. The fish have not hit the rivers up here yet. But it was still fun. Two weeks ago we hiked Flat Top. It's a big steep mountain that overlooks Anchorage and the bay. It's way pretty but a crappie hike. I don't like uphill hiking. But other than that we have not done anything really cool. It's different here in Anchorage. We almost never have service work and when we do it's really weird random community service. But we have moved like 6 people since I have been here. It's nothing like Palmer. But oh well. I think I will be in Anchorage until October maybe. I am not quite sure just a guess. I hope that I can see Dan and Noreen too. They are a hoot.

Yes I got your letter this week. It was nice, thank you very much. I am glad you all had fun St. George. I want to go to the Grand Canyon again too. The last time I was there I was like 5 or 6. I am an old man now. So I will be waiting for a package from you all. I sent a letter out today for you all so don't get mad if it's not long enough. I just don't have time and I don't enjoy writing a 4 page letter. Ha-ha.
Well I don't know what else to say. I love you all and I really enjoy the letters and emails. Keep up the good work.

Love,
Elder Woolbert

Power House Week!!!

7/16/2012
Hey family,

How are you doing? The baptism went very, very well. I am really crunched for time today. I don't know where all my time went today so if I don't get it all in this email I will write you all a letter.

The baptism was the high light of my week by far. You will laugh at the pictures of us all in white. I look like a monster of a man next to Rosalie and her husband Jason. They are not big people. Ha-ha. The spirit was so strong there. All went very well. I was able to stay the night in Palmer so I could to be part of them getting confirmed the next day. It was so cool. I felt very honored to be asked to be a part of the whole thing. All the people in Palmer were way happy to see me there too.  I love that place. The whole drive up to Palmer I was smiling like a little kid on his way to Disneyland. I truly love that area and the people. It's my second home. So many people came up to me and told me that I was family to them. That was cool because I feel the same way about them. Gosh it was just a great weekend. Plus back in our own area we had lots of miracles happen this week. I don't have time to write them all down but it was a power house week. Wow. The power of the priesthood is real and God does answer prayers. The gospel is so true. I get it. Well kind of but that's a long story. Ha-ha. Thanks for all the love and support. I love you all and I hope you have a great week.

I hope all goes well. You have a great week and don't forget to pray.

 Love,
 Elder Woolbert

Ammon on a stick?!

7/9/2012
Hey Family and Friends,

The baptism for Rosalie will be this Saturday at 3 in Palmer. I will be baptizing her and her husband I believe. I have never baptized anyone before so I am a little nervous. I think all will go well. The Lord is on my side. Well not much happened this week. Most every person was gone all week. Every house we went to no one was home or they were busy. It sucked hard core but that's a the life of a missionary. It’s not all fun and games. It was also a very lame Fourth of July. I felt very un-American. I can't wait to get home and blow stuff up and be with my family the next Fourth of July. I have nothing to report on. I feel bad.

Well that’s pretty funny what Aunt Sue did. It probably looks weird as heck but it's funny. (She enlarged a picture of Ammon’s head and put it on a stick so he would be included in on our family pictures.) I am glad all the things went well with the anniversary party and the dinners. I can't believe dad was telling the Warhurst's about the second coming until one in the morning. Ha-ha. That's so like dad. Gosh I miss talking to you guys. Only 11 months left. Ha-ha. Not that I am counting or anything.

So I am still not a fan of my ward at all. They are very stand offish and lots of people tell us that.  But they feed us well and we are able to get work done.  There are probably 10 families that rock. Our bishop is a stud. He tells us all the time the ward sucks. When they changed the boundaries up, they were not nice to our ward. There is no leadership in our ward. Not much of anything. Sorry for sounding so negative today. It's just been a cruddy week and nothing has happened.
Well I got to stop writing. I do not know what to say anymore. I love the lord with all my heart. I am doing well and I am learning lots. You all have a great week and keep the faith.

Love,
Elder Woolbert

7/2/2012
Dear People from back home,

Sorry if I am all over the place in this email. I have a hard time remembering everything form my weeks because they are so busy. We do so much. I will try and give you some high lights. To start off, two weeks ago I was told about a lady in palmer that I know very well; she was mowing her lawn up a really steep hill at their house and she flipped the riding lawn mower backward on to herself and she broke her back. It was really weird because I was having dinner and at her parents’ house that night it happened and they told me. I think I was meant to be there for a reason. It was too weird to be a coincidence. I was pretty depressed about that and I prayed a lot for her. She had to wait a week for the doctors to get enough people in the hospital to operate on her. But she had surgery early this last week and I got to visit her on Friday. It was really good to see her. It brought back a lot of good memories of palmer. She is doing well and is in good spirits. I was happy to see that. Also this week I got a text from Rosalie the Philippine lady I was teaching in palmer and she asked me to baptize her sometime in July. I was totally taken off guard. I was so thrilled that she asked me. I just want to see her baptized. Her husband has made it home from the war and he’s been getting taught to. He is getting baptize as well. Those are probably the high lights of my week.

We are doing a lot of work with less actives and it is going well. We have a bunch of none members we teach but I have not met half of them and the ones I have met are always too busy to meet and have a lesson. Everyone is gone. They don’t leave Alaska they all stay here but they are fishing or camping or whatever they can outside. People up here take full advantage of the summers. The summers are amazing up here much better than at home. Mom you would love the summers here. Its sun all the time. Ha-ha!

But before I forget we had dinner at a family’s house this week and they were telling us about their daughter that is on her mission. In a vary recent letter home she told her parents they Russell M. Nelson came to their mission to visit.  It was really cool and I forgot all that he said. One thing I remember he said to the bishops and stake presidents in her mission was to get your wards and stakes ready for a vary bumpy roller coaster ride. The saints will have more persecution then in the times of the start of the church. The time is coming vary soon. Be prepared. When I heard that I was totally blown away. I figured dad would like to hear that. Very very interesting. Be ready that’s all I can say. Stay strong in the gospel. In the last days it says there will be a cleansing and the cleansing will start in the church. Hold strong and faithful to the end.

Well I love you all so much. Have a blast in St. George. Don’t get sun burnt ha-ha

Love,
Elder woolbert
