Good morning Family back home,

Well it's a bit chilly out this morning. It is registering at -45 degrees. Woo got to love it. You freeze in a matter of minutes out here without a jacket on. Ha-ha. But anyways it was an interesting week. I got Dear Johned on Saturday. That sucked. It came out of nowhere but whatever I am glad it happened on my mission. Then on top of that almost all of our lessons canceled this week. That made things hard and then no one showed up to Church yesterday because it was so so cold. But hey it's all good. We are looking forward to this next week and it will be better. Amber and Logan are doing good. We are working on getting them married. That's the first big step and they want to get married they just need then money because she wants to have a wedding and all the things that go with a wedding. I might talk to the Lady's in the ward and see if we can get something put together to get them married. They are a lot of fun to teach. I love their little boys. They are so fun. Then we are teaching a guy named Jared. He is doing well too and he will get baptized. He just needs to read the Book of Mormon. There are a few other people as well but those are the top three that we are teaching.

So all sounds good back home. Avary is keeping busy. Dang. She is growing up so fast I hate that I am missing it. That's my baby sister. So mom and dad is there anything that you are wanting from Alaska because I am in a good spot to get some really cool things for cheap. Like fur pelts and baleen off the whales, or stuff made by the native people. If you can think of something let me know, ok. So last Monday we started playing dodge ball and I think we are playing that again today for p-day. It is a lot of fun and I owe people. There is only one other elder that gives me a run for my money. It's cool. I would be better if I lost 4o pounds though. Oh well that will be after my mission. I really like this eating healthy. Plus I can make it taste good. I normal have a smoothie for breakfast or some eggs. I mix spinach and carrots and other fruit in my shakes. They are good. Hmm. Well I love you and I can’t wait to see you in 4 and a half months. Have a good week and be safe.

Something I forgot and keep meaning to ask for. Can you get me Grandma Woolbert's patriarchal blessing? Thanks. I just want to read it. You can get that on the church web site. Thanks.

Near Death Experience

Dear Family and Friends,

My and companion and I had a really good week full of teaching and what not. We also had a really close call as well. Mom, I thought it was ironic that you had been thinking about me more this week than normal. This was the first time on my mission that I had a near death experience. So before you freak out mom we are both totally fine and in good health and we don't have a scratch on us. Ha-ha. Ok and no freaking out and calling the mission home.  So Saturday night we were on our way home after we had a great lesson with Logan and Amber. They live way out on Haystack Mountain. It’s like a 35 minute drive from our house. Well we are driving along doing about 60 mph in a 55 mph zone and we come over the crest of this hill. It's a very big hill, not really steep just long and strait. So we are at the top and at the bottom of the hill there is a sweeping left turn and around the corner comes two jeeps and behind them is an 18 wheeler. They are just driving then the middle jeep goes to pass the jeep in front and he quickly does so but he does not get over into his lane. He stays in my lane and keeps going. He was going pretty fast at least 70 mph. Well I see this and I don't freak out because I just figured he would get back over. Well he doesn't. He keeps coming so I start to slow down but the roads are icy so you can't slow down fast. Well I am pulling the truck off to the shoulder as much as I can without going off the hill. Well no joke he is about twenty feet in front of us and I just crank the steering wheel into the snow bank totally expecting to go over the hill but the truck comes to a total stop in less than five feet but the back end of the truck was still in the road and this guy was heading right for us and he kept drifting on more of an angle to hit us. At the last second I pulled into the snow bank and he should have hit us. I am not making it up, the door behind me and the bed of the truck should have been hit head on by him but he missed us by inches. This guy was trying to kill us. Before we left Logan and Amber's house they asked me to say the prayer and I always ask for safe travels and I always have safe travels but this time I could see the Lord at work. He truly protected us from that crash. My and companion and I should have been dead or in a hospital but do to the Lord and his mercy we were saved. It's something that I will never forget. We are in the Lords hands and when we do what is right he will protect us. I know my prayers were answered and I know all your prayers were as well. Thanks for all your love and support.

So about the rest of this week. We had a lot of good lessons and gave a few blessings and did some service. Our numbers didn't look amazing but the work we did was good and we had a lot of families that we have been working with come to church this Sunday. It was great. The work will go forth.  My and companion and I have a lot of fun sometimes too much fun. It can be a struggle some times to be serious in a lesson together. Ha-ha.  I guess your sense of humor on a mission gets a little weird but it's what keeps you sane.

So we are going to Utah in July? Hmm.  No one told me about that. What if I have a job? I do plan on working as much as possible when I get home because I am broke.  Plus that's fishing season in Alaska. Moose season is in September. I got to be able to pay for that. I don't want to lose my residence but we will talk when I get home. There is nothing more than I can think of that I might need at the moment but thanks. Well I need to get going. I love you all so much. Have a good week and be safe and I will as well.

Dear Family,

So I will get to your questions first so I don't forget. Yes the number that I called you from at Christmas is my same number that Br. Pehrson can contact me at and yes I got Aunt Nette's card. Tell them thank you for me. It was really good. And as for what you can send me, I do not know. How about some really healthy breakfast cereal?  I need something that will fill me up but is really good for you and not full of crap. So pretty much organic cereal. Me and my companion are going on a diet. I hate diets but we have to. Our bodies just can't handle the crap anymore. It really wears you down. But it's all good.  We are going to buy some good stuff today and we are getting the ward to not feed us dessert anymore. That's a killer. Well my new companion is Elder Gardner. He is from Colorado. He seems alright. No problems yet. So I am crossing my fingers. I guess that I have learned to just adapt to each companion change. It makes things so much easier.

Thank you mom for sharing that story about you praying and getting that prayer answered. Like I have said before, the Lord is very mindful of our needs and when we show our faith things happen. It’s almost always predicated upon our faith and on the Lord's time. Thank you mom for having the Faith that you have and being an example to me and to the rest of the family.

So this week was kind of slow for mission work. I didn't get my companion until Thursday afternoon so I was in a three some Tuesday and Wednesday and part of Thursday. So not much happened. All three of us were covering different areas. It was a joke but we made up for it. We picked up a new investigator and that was cool. It is an 11 year old boy and his sister who is 8. We will teach both of them but only the 11 year old counts as an investigator. But that's all good. I am not a number grubber. Two of our investigators moved this last week to a far out part of our area. It takes us 35 min to drive there from our house and that's not going the speed limit, that's speeding. Ha-ha. But it's cool. They needed to move and they are renting a nice house and it will save them some money. They are moving right along in the lessons and slowly making the changes that they need to meet the gospel standards. I hate to say standards but that is the way Father in Heaven wants us to live. The gospel is really cool. It never ceases to amaze me. So I am almost done with reading the Book of Mormon again for the 3rd time. Next I am moving on to the Doctrine and Covenants. I have never read that cover to cover. It should be good. Lots to learn in there.

Well I don't have any big plans today but it should be fun. But I got to get going. I love you all. Have a good week and be safe.

Hey Family and Friends,

Last week was a good week. Christmas was a blast. We ate really good. I think I want to have prime rib at all my Christmas dinners from now on. It's the best way to go. A ham for Easter and a turkey for Thanksgiving and a prime rib for Christmas. I love the members up here. They love us, well they love the elders that work and do the right stuff. They treated us well at Christmas. The members that we live with are cool. They are really nice they are just a little different and think a little different than what I do but that’s ok. Yes we talked about a lot of stuff on the phone so it's hard to think about what to write about to you all. On the holidays it's hard to do mission work because everyone is busy and has family in town. So that's hard but it's ok, you just make plans ahead of time so you have stuff to do. Last Friday I got sick that night from food sickness. It sucked. I hate getting sick. You run the risk of getting sick every time you eat at some persons house. Ha-ha. But it's all good.

So this is transfer week. I lost my companion. He is going to the pit of Alaska in Anchorage. Poor guy but he is training a new guy. He is happy but it sucks that I am losing him. He is a stud, but I am getting Elder Gardner. I do not know who he is but that’s who I am getting and I am staying here. I am still district leader. Ugh. I asked president if I could resign from my calling and he laughed and said if you resign you will go zone leader so I quickly said I will keep my DL spot. So things are going forward still. We are on a hot, hot streak right now. It's 28 deg right now. Flipping heck that's hot. It gets up to 40 deg some times. So all the snow is melting off the roofs of houses.

We have to be in early on New Year’s, at 7:30 at night. It kind of kills the fun in everything you know but we need to be SAFE. Hahaha. So we will probably just chill and sleep early tonight. But yes it's good. Oh I got the card from Grandpa Bloom and Cathy. That was good and I got the card from Nana. Tell them thank you so much. So you want to know about the fire alarm. (When we were talking to Ammon on Christmas day, he was getting ready to walk into his ward building when he had to quickly hang up because the fire alarm was going off.)We get to the church and the alarm is going off so we called people to come and shut the alarm off and we waited for like 45 minutes and then we got in the church and we find the north half of the building is flooded in 2 inches of water. Not good so they had to pull the church apart and get people in there to dry the place out so we had church in another building this last Sunday. So that was fun. We should be back in our building this Sunday. But yes a sprinkler head broke and that's how the church flooded. So there is your update.  Well I got to get going. Have a good week.
